Valentine's Day Gingerbread House

Living in Indianapolis, we are big Peyton Manning fans! So we were pumped to cheer him and the Denver Broncos on in the Super Bowl. Go Denverapolis Broncolts, ha!!!

Despite the excitement of cheering on Peyton, it is always nice to have a fun activity to do while the game is on. For Christmas this year, my grandma bought us the coolest thing! It is called the Candy Cottage and it is a gingerbread house for any season. Made out of plastic, it easily snaps together to be decorated. Once you are done with it, you can wash it and reuse it next time you are in the mood to decorate.

Before getting started, I whipped up some delicious buttercream icing by combining butter, powdered sugar, milk and vanilla in my stand mixer. I included the recipe below.

Gavin and I decided that we needed green frosting for the ground, pink frosting for the walls and white frosting for the roof. I also took advantage of the opportunity to clean out my pantry of candy and cereal that was ready to be eaten! I put all of our ingredients in bowls so that it would be easy for us to see what we were working with :)

Now it was time for the fun stuff: DECORATING! Gavin and I had so much fun frosting the whole thing! Paul even jumped in to help during one of the commercials. Then we started adding candy and I learned that Gavin likes it to be as neat and symmetrical as I do!

Here's the big reveal! We are very happy with how it turned out :)

And here it is from every conceivable angle!

I highly recommend The Candy Cottage. Having a reusable gingerbread house is so much fun, I can't wait for the next time we decide to decorate it. For now, we are enjoying picking the candy off practically every time we walk by :)

See you soon,

  3. I loved the candy cottage. Totally need to get 4 of them for me kiddos. We always have a hard time with the real thing. The walls never look straight enough and are always falling down.
