DIY Tutu Easter Basket

For the past couple weeks, I have been thinking about the fact that Easter is fast approaching... But I have done nothing to prepare for it. I think we will probably be coloring our Easter eggs on Saturday night!

Today I found myself with a little free time, so I decided to try an idea that my mom sent me last week. She found a picture of an Easter basket that looked like a tutu, with tulle hanging from the top edge.

I have a lot of tulle at my house that was left over from the tutu making station at my baby shower. I pulled out all of the pieces that were already cut to an appropriate tutu length :) Recently I found a perfect old basket just taking up space in our garage, so I figured this would be a great upcycle.

I folded each piece of tulle in half then stuck the loop through a gap at the top of the basket. Then I pulled both ends through the loop. It took me 30-45 minutes to cover the entire top of the basket. Next I took one long piece that I found in the pile and wrapped the handle of the basket with it.

I'm really happy with the way this turned out. I wasn't exactly sure how to create this or whether it would look like the picture, but it was relatively easy and looks cheery!

Check out my video that shows the entire process.

  1. This is something that I have not seen in the world of Easter baskets. Very cute! Tutus are always a hit with me. If I wouldn't look silly, I'd maybe wear one every day. Actually, one of my all-time favorite Bloggers is a gal that rocks tutus in the most elegant grown up of ways. Life in the Fun Lane is the name of the blog. Her style is so opposite of mine which is French country, Old World, Cottage... ya ya, you know the drill. Ha ha. Holly is a minimalist, but it's gorgeous. If you decide to go over and check her out, go back into old posts. I mean super OLD like five- seven years old. It's a hidden treasure trove in there. Holly does some really fun projects with her daughter and art. I'm just a mom of 1 sweet goofy, almost 8 years old, Black Lab | Golden Retriever mix. Trust me. He is a kid and he likes to do projects too.;-)

I hope you enjoy Hollys blog one night when you feel like exploring. The crafts that she does are really pretty and I, without traditional kids, even enjoy the kiddo stuff.

    1. I love tutus also! When I found out I was having a baby girl, I kept buying boy onesies. My hubby said- you know we are having a girl right? My response... I can put a tutu on anything! So when my best friend planned our baby shower there was a tutu making station. My baby girl has a tutu for EVERY occasion :)

I will definitely check out Holly's blog! It sounds fabulous! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I forgot to say nice job on the video too! I would love to know how you made it go fast. If you have a chance and some extra time, would you mind messaging me how to do that? All of my contact information is on my blog. I check Facebook most frequently. Because Mr. Google gets grumpy with links and my lack of desire to deal with crazy SPAM I hate to leave my email address, so I will try to do it in a sneaky way. It's my name, Olivia at Reinvented Collection dot com.

    Thank you so much,
