Yesterday I put together a DIY Tutu Easter Basket. The instructions with video can be found here. Today, I decided to use our new tutu basket as a prop in an Easter photo shoot.
I moved the furniture away from the wall opposite our large window in the family room. I tacked up an old white sheet, then got the kids ready. In hindsight, I should have ironed the sheet before putting it up. I ended up having to edit out some of the wrinkles in the sheet while cleaning up the photos.
I put Olivia in a simple white onesie with a light pink tutu and ballet slippers. She alternated between wearing a hot pink headband and a pair of bunny ears. She got over the bunny ears pretty quickly :)
I put Gavin in a gray polo shirt with a pair of salmon/ light red shorts. I wanted him to match the pastel theme that Olivia had going. He also ended up wearing the bunny ears for a lot of the shoot, which looked really cute on him!
Once the kiddos looked the part, I set them up in front of my makeshift back drop and plopped the basket full of eggs in front of them. I did very little in terms of directing of them. Occasionally, I would call for Olivia to look at me or ask Gavin to move a little, but for the most part I just let them interact naturally and tried to catch good moments.
The biggest mistake that I made was setting up my backdrop across from my lighting. I should have known better! I had to dodge my shadow the entire time. I will definitely be setting up the backdrop for my next photo shoot on the adjacent wall to avoid the issue.
I highly recommend setting up impromptu do it yourself photo sessions with your kids. The moments that I am able to catch of my kids both together and individually are priceless!
Oh my goodness, what a sweet photo shoot! I love the tutu! Awww!
